ACOEP is a dynamic association. Through the years we’ve grown and evolved, adapting to the times and embracing change. It is this spirit of growth that inspired the name Emerge given to our Spring and Fall conferences—a name formed by a period of change, evolution, and maturation.
The journey of emergence has brought us to a precipice in emergency medicine, a place of unforeseen challenges and incredible opportunity. There is no roadmap as we journey into this uncharted territory, however as emergency physicians look to gain an edge, ACOEP will be a stalwart resource for its members.
It’s this unique point that inspires the new branding of all ACOEP conferences under one bold heading: The Edge. This is more than a name change and a new logo, The Edge is the inspiration and the foundation upon which our educational opportunities will be based.
To give you an edge to overcome new challenges; embrace the cutting edge of new technologies, opportunities and advancement; and journey together to the edge, generating creative thoughts, solutions and lasting advancement.
This concept will be our cornerstone as we plan conventions, find new topics and explore new opportunities for our attendees. We hope it will be your outlook as you arrive, ready to give yourself an edge in learning the unknown, and broadening your horizons.
The branding of an event is more than simply marketing, or a name change. In the case of ACOEP’s conference our brand is the expression of what each individual ingredient brings to the whole. Didactic topics, new speakers, case presentations, hands-on training, innovative ideas, captivating debate, all are influenced by The Edge and all contribute to a whole greater than the sum of its parts. A brand is a watchword, an objective and an inspiration.

The Board Examinations loom before you as you sit for them for the first time, and they return with a vengeance when it comes time to recertify. So long as you practice medicine, they will dog you. Fortunately, ACOEP has the proven tools to give you an edge over the Board Examinations!
Who Attends The Edge - Intense Review?
Residents studying for their boards for the first time, physicians preparing to recertify, even those who are trying to collect as much 1A CME as possible, all attend the Intense Review and Oral Board Review courses!
Why should you go?
The Edge - Intense Review is, as the name suggest, intense! Five very full days of didactic sessions tailored to give you knowledge broad in breadth and rich in depth. Each topic is selected to help you with specific sections of the Board examination and includes pearls to help you pass with ease. A comprehensive visual stimulus makes this a well-rounded, practical review, and a pre and post test track your progress.
Furthermore, you can earn up to 42 hours of 1A CME credits from the AOA at this conference making the end of your accreditation cycle much easier! Also, The American Association of Physician Assistants accepts Category 1A CME from AOA-CCME providers, prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA Category 1 CME for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME.
Why does it have to be Chicago in January?
Trust us, ACOEP staff would like nothing more than to escape the Windy City at this time of year, but doctors are made of stronger stuff and we know you can brave the cold! Also, who would want to sit in a classroom studying for hours on end when sunshine and warm weather beckons you outside? We aren’t that cruel!
January 14 and 15, 2014
Westin River North
Two in one! While you are in Chicago for The Edge - Intense Review, take the Oral Board Review Course to fully prepare you for your Board certification experience! This day-long course offers mock examinations with experienced examiners and cases designed to mimic the exams. The small group setting provides you with ample practice as well as the opportunity to learn from your peers as they respond to the cases presented.
Due to limited class size, this course will be offered twice, once on Tuesday, January 14 and again on Wednesday, January 15. Each course will be limited to 30 participants. Please register in advance as they will sell out very quickly.
Who Attends Oral Boards?
Like The Edge - Intense Review, residents taking their Oral Boards for the first time, veteran physicians recertifying, and those in search of 1A CME credit all benefit from this course.
Why Should I Attend?
This is as close to a teacher-like experience as you can get. The mock exams give you the practice you need to enter your Oral Boards with confidence! Also, 11 hours of 1A CME Credit through the AOA makes a huge difference.
Do I need to attend The Edge - Intense Review to take the Oral Board Course?
No! You can sign up for each review individually.
Furthermore, two additional courses will be offered in Chicago throughout the year. Check the ACOEP website for dates and locations.
